The introduction to the original Dune tells the story of how a Sister from Rossak evolved into the Bene Gesserit. The incident with Valya Harkonnen, who used the voice, comes from one called Mentats of Dune. All three books intertwine the development of the Sisters, Mentats, Navigators, and Suk’s doctors. I wanted to keep it short and to the point, but I felt the urge to expand on my thoughts.
So that’s it
There were times when writers knew how to weave exposition into the story without it feeling forced and contrived. I understand it’s the first episode, but they have to explain everything as if it’s not common knowledge. Watson (Valya), Mark Strong (Emperor), Travis Fimmel (Hart), and Sarah-Sofie Boussnina (Princess) give good performances. I feel like the show is in good hands.
The other characters didn’t interest me
They advance the story, but they’re forgotten. I guess we’ll see how it goes. I had a hard time focusing on the first episode. It felt like it was part of a whole that couldn’t be separated.
They did a great job with the visuals
I’ll wait a whole season to consume the rest of the episodes. The CGI is high quality, the costumes are perfect, and the tone of Villeneuve’s vision is maintained and expanded. The art department should win awards for how beautiful it looks.
